Prostatitis is a frequently painful condition that involves inflammation of the prostate and sometimes the areas around the prostate.
Scientists have identified four types of prostatitis:
- chronic prostatitis or chronic pelvic pain syndrome
- acute bacterial prostatitis
- chronic bacterial prostatitis
- asymptomatic inflammatory prostatitis
Men with asymptomatic inflammatory prostatitis do not have symptoms. A health care provider may diagnose asymptomatic inflammatory prostatitis when testing for other urinary tract or reproductive tract disorders. This type of prostatitis does not cause complications and does not need treatment.
What is the prostate?
The prostate is a walnut-shaped gland that is part of the male reproductive system. The main function of the prostate is to make a fluid that goes into semen. Prostate fluid is essential for a man’s fertility.
Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome (CPPS)
Pelvic pain can be a common symptoms of urinary tract infections, urogenital problems and diseases of the digestive system and lower spine. If your doctor or specialist fails to find a clear cause of the pelvic pain, the diagnosis of chronic pelvic pain syndrome may be established. In men this syndrome can often be due to chronic prostatitis. Causes of chronic pelvic pain syndrome is can be muscular or tendon-related dysfunctions of the pelvic floor muscles, sexual hypo- or hyperactivity, or neuro-psychic disturbances.
Shockwave Therapy/ESWT for Chronic Prostatitis & CPPS
Shockwave therapy is new unique therapeutic concept of treatment of chronic prostatitis and chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS). Treatment is outpatient, almoust painless and non-invasive. 4 sessions treatment is usually used to achieve pain free status. The therapy head is positioned above the prostate. ESWT treatment consists of wireless shock wave therapy to break down calcifications within the prostate gland. These calcifications usually harbour bacteria which fuel the disease process. The shock waves break these calcifications into smaller fragments allowing your body’s natural immune system to adequately and easily eliminate them. This treatment is carried out on out-patient basis and doesn’t require hospital admissions. Our patients usually attend a minimum of 4 treatment cycles, which are usually 1 to 2 weeks apart. Procedure leads to elimination of calcification of prostate, improves blood circulation, prostate function and relieves chronic pain.
